Rest

A reflection

Rest is built into the very shape of creation, before it was ever a commandment. That order matters: rest is a gift given to people who are loved, not a reward for people who finished. Jesus' invitation to the weary is famously gentle — come, and I will give you rest — and the yoke He offers is described as easy, which is not how most of us carry our days. If you are exhausted, that is worth taking seriously as a spiritual matter, not just a scheduling one. Lay something down today. Sleep, if you can. The world will keep turning without your vigilance.
